The Weeknd Cuts Ties With H&M After Controversial Photo Surfaces Online
Clothing retail giant, H&M, is known for it's unique collaborations with famous artists in the music industry ranging from Justin Bieber to Metallica. One of their more recent collaborations was with The Weeknd and XO Brand, however, the contract may be cut short.
In a recent photoshoot for H&M Kids, H&M had a child of colour modelling a hoodie boldly reading "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle".
With racism being one of our generations biggest cultural issues, people have not been taking this incident lightly, including most of the members of XO. The boycott against H&M began with Abel (The Weeknd) uploading a screenshot of the child modelling the hoodie to his Twitter captioned: "woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo. i’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore..."
Shortly after Abel shared his announcement, his fellow XO creators began sharing his tweet to Social Media outlets such as Instagram as well as their own Twitter accounts.
Take a look at The Weeknd's tweet below:
In response, rapper 24hrs shared a meme on his Instagram account showing a white child with a box of 'Ritz Crackers' on his hoodie reading, "The Coolest Cracker in This Box". The photo has recently been removed from his account.
